Bixby is a very special, beautiful dog but also needs a very special home/owner. He was transferred to us from a rescue in NY, they got him from a different rescue. Based on that Bixby basically grow up in rescues. We were told that he got along with dogs over there but we are testing him here at our rescue with several dogs and so far he is a good boy. He probably never had an easy life, had a broken front leg when he was very young and because of that, had orthopedic surgery 10/03/2018. He still limps a little bit to this day but loves walks. Bixby is 53% Great Pyr, 15% Sib. Husky, 9% Wolf and 23% other breeds. He needs to get to know and trust a person before he likes to be petted. You earn his trust with patience, treats and walks. He is completely friendly with the owners of this rescue now since he sees them every day and of course they feed him 2 times a day. We - the volunteers - needed a little bit more time with him but it is so worth it. One of our volunteers took him out for a walk the first time after meeting him 3 times and he did great. He is a loving dog when you gain his trust! We believe a 1 or 2 person household would be best for him or a family with teenage kids. Because of Bixby's history we don't feel safe to adopt him out to a family with young children. A BIG 6 FOOT FENCED YARD/PROPERTY TO ROAM AROUND IS A MUST!
